"Whale Song" Excerpt

My prediction was correct, the excerpt we read was about the ocean and also was located in Bamfield! After finishing the first two chapters of a novel called "Whale Song" by Cheryl Kaye Tardif, I was left pondering if it's a true story or based off one. The protagonist was described a lot more (because it was a novel) making it have a longer exposition and her name is Sarah. The author did a great job of portraying what a 11 year old girl would feel if she had to move to a new place and leave all her old friends and her town behind. Just like I thought though, when she arrived at Bamfield and saw how tremendous and gorgeous it was she started having second thoughts about disliking it. I noticed a bit of foreshadowing on page 13 "Little did I know just how unfair life could be", but since we only read the first two chapters I don't know what is going to happen to her and how unfair it is going to be. I predict that later on in the story she may travel out past the raft and get lost and swept away by the ocean. I think this could happen because her dad stressed many time how important it was for her to not swim past the raft and in most stories the main character normally does not listen and does it anyway. Also, I think maybe a whale will symbolize something important or help her out when she gets swept away because the title has "Whale" in it. So far in the story a theme you could start to develop is that life is an adventure and many bad things can happen to you just like good.
